The Not-There-Yet TWLIGHT TALES at LE CREPERIE: DARK CHRONICLES

This would not have been as well-remembered as Twilight Tales would be, the back room was a confined area and it was hard to be heard because of water fountains just outside the back door. Still, it was a lot of fun, I still can't recall how long it went on, but there was a gap between DC and TT, which began, as I'll remind you again, the night Bill Bixby died of prostate cancer. That following Monday, Frank Zappa died of prostate cancer, but that was it for celebrity deaths that month.

THE START OF THE WEEKLY or MONTHLY READINGS

I'm a week late in posting this, as usual, but Twilight Tales, which was started by Tina Jens, was a weekly reading series that went on for over fifteen years and won awards and really kept a lot of writers hanging in there with their open mic nights.

The Red Lion at that spot right now is a sports bar, so don't go there. I miss the place, and I miss the coolest bartender around, Joe Heinen. But it all started in 1993. On the day Bill Bixby died of prostate cancer.

CLOWNS IN THE FLATIRON BUILDING

The Flatiron Building, formerly the Fuller Building, is a few blocks away from Volumes bookcafe, where Brendan Detzner holds Bad Grammar Theater every month. Filled with art studios, a hair salon with the ominous and cool name I'll Cut You, and years ago the wonderful House of Monsters, this place still has a hand crank elevator.

And the interior is painted with clowns. I've tried to find out more information about the artist, but have come up with nothing. Hopefully someone will see this post through the Google machine and will contact me.

FROM THE BACK COVER OF PAIN GRIN

I wish I had more photos from back then, but Harry Fassl was running low on his Roloflex film and we were on a mission. We were shooting black and white shots along Archer and I saw the burnt out car and didn't even care, I just climbed right in, after taking my jacket off. Other photos from that excursion ended up in SEQUITER#1 and SILVER WEB.

SIGNATURE PAGES FOR CLICKERS...FOREVER!

Signing tip sheets can be a chore but there is always some amount of nostalgia to it. I always enjoy seeing which author is sending me the box from what town and then where I'll be sending it next.

ARCANA 41 AND WILLIAM F. NOLAN

Finally was able to get the photos off of my phone. I mentioned Arcana in a previous post, but it really was melancholy being there. I hadn't seen Duane Olson (in the yellow windbreaker) in decades. Harry Fassl and I would always drive in the early morning, so I've never crossed the Mississippi at night. Eric Heidemann and Roger Dale Trexler did a great job of doing a panel on Rod Serling.
